Do I need to install anything besides Flittly?
Flittly itself is one download for Mac, Windows or Linux. Its private AI (merchant names, categories, receipt reading) runs through Ollama, which you install separately for now.
Which banks and file types work?
Any bank. Flittly reads the statement files your bank gives you, not a list of supported banks: PDF statements, and CSV, OFX, QFX, QBO and QIF files. If you already use another app, you can bring its export in too. See the Switch page.
Is it really free?
Yes. The desktop app is free, and everything that runs on your computer stays free: imports, AI on your device, budgets, goals, recurring bills, reports, encrypted backups, and sync between your own devices through a folder you choose. Flittly Cloud, an optional add-on for bank connections, the web app and hosted AI, is coming soon.
What runs on my computer, and what runs in the cloud?
With Cloud off, everything runs on your computer and your data is stored there. The app contacts the internet only to check for updates and to download AI models. If you turn on Flittly Cloud later, bank connections, the web app and cloud sync use our servers. Only then does data reach them.
What are the system requirements?
Flittly runs on macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit), and Linux (AppImage, x86_64). Local AI needs a computer with enough memory to run a small model through Ollama; imports and budgets do not.
What if I lose my computer?
Make encrypted backups (.flittly files) and keep them somewhere safe, or turn on sync between your devices through a folder your cloud storage already syncs, such as iCloud Drive or Dropbox. Backups and sync are encrypted before they leave the app, so your storage provider cannot read them. Without a backup, your data exists only on your computer, because we never receive it.
Is there a phone app?
Not today. Flittly is an app for your computer. A web app, usable from a phone browser, will come with Flittly Cloud, which is coming soon.
How do I switch from another app?
Export your transactions from the old app and drop the file into Flittly. We have export steps for Mint, Monarch, YNAB, Copilot, Rocket Money, Empower, Simplifi, Quicken, Lunch Money, Actual Budget and Tiller on the Switch page.
How do I delete my data?
Data in the desktop app stays on your device until you delete it, and you can export a copy first (Settings, Data, Export everything). If you created a cloud account, Settings, Account, Delete cloud account cancels subscriptions, revokes bank connections and deletes your cloud records and sign-in. Your own devices are not affected.
